Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software is a comprehensive solution that manages and controls SAP licenses based on usage behavior, enabling significant cost avoidance and efficiencies in SAP administration. By monitoring active SAP usage, it can identify and recommend the ideal license types for all users and detect Indirect Usage. Most organizations are obliged to run system measurement on a regular basis. This is typically a draining manual process and extremely time consuming. Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software helps in the preparation and execution of this process. With many systems running into the tens or hundreds within an organization, this automation can save a significant amount of time and enable SAP Basis Administrators to focus their time on business-critical tasks.

New menu items: Indirect Usage

  • Monitoring reports to show external accesses to and from SAP systems for the access technologies RFC and HTTP
  • A report 'Activity Checks' to show the results for the activity checks dedicated to identify potential Indirect Usage
  • A report 'Third Party Product Namespaces' to monitor usage of SAP add-ons by monitoring the SAP namespaces used by third-party products
  • A report 'User Reconciliation' which enables reconciliation for users who also have accounts on other systems or have accounts only on specific systems

Locking and unlocking of users, setting the SAP user group

It is now possible to lock and unlock SAP users, both from any ABAP report as well by a ruleset action. A new action type in rulesets now allows to set the SAP user group.

 

New object types 'Receiver Lists' and 'Notifications'

Reusable lists of recipients (email or SAP mail) can be maintained independently from the functionality where they are used in the product. Similarly, custom notifications can be maintained and precede the messages sent out. Both new objects 'Receiver Lists' and 'Notifications' are available under the new menu item 'Cross-functional Objects'.

 

Direct link to Snow Support Portal

In the start screen, a direct link has been added to access the Snow Support Portal.

 

ENHANCEMENT

Additional fields in user master data

The field ALIAS has been added to the user master data fields of ABAP systems.

 

Extension of Warning Functions 

The usage of warning functions has been extended. For each type of warning there is now a new object type 'Warning Thresholds'. In conjunction with the new object types 'Receiver Lists' and 'Notifications' it is now possible to define different thresholds for different purposes and to send them to different groups of persons with different notifications.

Relative period specifications 

Wherever a period specification for CCMS statistics data (consumption data) or change document data can be done, relative period specifications are now possible and used by default.

 

New menu item 'Cross-functional Objects', and other menu changes 

This new menu item contains several moved old items from the Rules->Definitions folder and the two new items 'Receiver Lists' and 'Notifications'. This leads to a more logical structure of the menu. The menu item 'Offline Data' has been moved to the Administration of the ABAP systems. New menu items in both Reports and Administration have been added for the new types of data sources available.

 

Separation of Data Administration for different data source types

The data administration functionality has been split up in separate programs, one for each type of data source.

 

Contract Management

In 'SAP license contracts', a database fee has been added. Individual items in the contract can be marked as irrelevant for the calculation of the database fee part of the contract sums.

 

Stable license types for data sources without native license type

The license type associated with each user of a Java-UME, HANA, BusinessObjects, or external data source is now kept stable after reloading the user data. This keeps intact the changes performed and the assigned license types for these users stay assigned instead of these changes being overwritten with the default license type of the data source.

 

Updated license type hierarchy templates

The templates delivered with the product have been updated to the newest version from SAP. Installed templates will be automatically migrated to the new templates.

 

Updated self-declaration engines

The delivered definitions of self-declaration engines have been updated to the current versions available on the SAP Service website.

 

CORRETIONS

  • Deleted usage profiles may have led to the inability to display and maintain local rules and rulesets. The correction report /DYNAM/INIT_DEL_USRPROF_IN_RLS makes the local rules and rulesets available again.
  • Sorting and filtering could have led to problems with drill-downs in several reports and has been corrected.
  • Roles of reference users are now considered in the reports 'Role Usage Analysis' and 'Authorized/ Executed Transactions'.

 

MIGRATION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled data load jobs, rule set executions, and warning functions have to be redefined/rescheduled due to changes in the selection screen of these reports.
