1. Rename SNOWDB in SQL Server Management Studio

2. Adjust Snow Server and Snow Inventory Data Provider (IDP); this is described in the sublevels below.

2.1 Change the SQL connection for the Snow Inventory Server:

Open the configuration file "server.ini" located in the %programfiles%\Snow Inventory\Server directory in Notepad. The database connection is found under the "[Database]" section.

  • Server = The name of the SQL
  • Server Database = The name of the SQL database
  • Username = The name of the SQL login used to access the database by Snow Inventory
  • Password = The password for the SQL login above (encrypted)

Change the value "Server Database=" to the name of the new SQL DB. Then save and close the "server.ini" file.

After saving the file, restart the "Snow Inventory Server" service to apply the changes. After restarting the service, monitor the log file for any errors in the communication to the new SQL database. The log file (server.log) is located in the "%programfiles%\Snow Inventory\Server\Data" directory.

2.2 Change the SQL connection for the Snow Inventory Data Processor (IDP):

If you use Snow Inventory Data Processor (IDP) to process the inventory data (and use Snow Inventory Server above as the receiver) then perform the following steps to update the SQL database connection for the IDP.

Open the configuration file “snowidp.ini” located in the “%programfiles%\Snow Software\Inventory Data Processor” directory in Notepad. The database connection is found under the "[Database]" section.

  • Server = The name of the SQL server
  • Database = The name of the SQL database
  • Username = The name of the SQL login used to access the database by Snow Inventory
  • Password = The password for the SQL login above (encrypted)

Change the value "Database=" to the name of the new SQL db. Then save and close the "snowidp.ini" file. After saving the file, restart the “Snow Inventory Server” service to apply the changes.

After restarting the service, monitor the log file for any errors in the communication to the new SQL server. The log file (snowidp.log) is located in the "%programfiles%\Snow Software\Inventory Data Processor\Logs" directory.

3. Change the database connection for the Snow Inventory Admin Console

3.1 Start the Snow Inventory Admin console

(This is done either from the Start menu Or by navigating to the Snow Inventory directory and double-clicking on "Admin.exe" (%programfiles%\Snow Inventory\Admin\Admin.exe))

3.2 To change the connection in the Snow Inventory Admin console go to file/system/settings/Inventory settings and select the re-named SnowDB as follows:

Do not forget to press the Apply button after clicking the OK button.
