Can someone explain to me what these abbreviations stand for?
APNS: Apple Push Notification Service:
This is the service that allows Snow Device Manager to communicate with and issue commands to iOS device registered in your environment. An Apple ID is required to create an APNS certificate that is then stored in the SDM system. The APNS certificate MUST be renewed annually to maintain communication between iOS devices and SDM. Snow recommends using a generic organization email address to create the Apple ID used to generate the APNS certificate. Visit identity.apple.com for more details.
DEP: Device Enrollment Program:
The Device Enrollment Program allows for iOS and macOS devices to be configured automatically during the “Setup Assistant” process when devices are powered on for the first time or undergo a factory reset. If an Apple device is set to be configured using DEP through Snow Device Manager, SDM will take over the device’s setup process once the device connects to the internet (through wi-fi or cellular connection). The device will then be configured with the deployments assigned to it in SDM. DEP is a free service, but organizations must register with Apple at deploy.apple.com to enroll.
VPP: Volume Purchase Program:
The Volume Purchase Program is used by organizations to procure iOS and macOS applications in bulk for their assignment to devices through EMM solutions, like Snow Device Manager. With VPP, the organization retains the rights to install and remove applications purchased with their VPP account. Applications purchased with VPP can also be set to install silently on managed devices through Snow Device Manager, without an Apple ID being configured on the device. VPP is a free service, but organizations must register with Apple at deploy.apple.com to enroll.
