How do I go about upgrading Inventory Client on a computer?
The best way is to just install Inventory Client on a computer; if Inventory Client is already installed, it will first be removed as part of the installation process, after which the new Inventory Client will be installed.
From my perspective, the much more interesting answer regarding the upgrade process would be "how do you get the most current Inventory Client".
Perhaps you could add a description of the recommended process here :-)
The best process to request updated agents for your estate is to email your Snow support desk, from here they can discuss configuration options. As outlined in the following criteria:
Is a Proxy required?
Is the Oracle Scanner required?
Once all the details have been agreed for the agent configuration the support team can get these built and sent over to you for deployment.
More similar with the question of Alex. We are running older versions of the windows client and I like to update. Where can I find this and is there a description or work instruction with the steps how to implement and update our inventory by replacing the existing clients , as possible on the way of auto update.
I think there is another side to this. You have two parts:
I now have SLM at version 8 but now thinking of migrating to version 5.1.1 of the Agent but to do so, I think i have to upgrade Snow Inventory. A better answer to all of this would be check you need to make before upgrading and steps you need to upgrade. Having the latest Agent without the relevent inventory version will make anythig you do redundant until it is the correct version for both.
What I know and understand now is that the new clients will not work with the old inventory environment.
So we need to update firts the Snow inventory server to 5. This version can work with the current clients version 3 and also with the new version 5 clients . So afther the inventory server update the update of the clients can be sceduled. But as far as I know now this installation on workplaces and servers must be done "localy" and is not possible via SNOW deploiment or update. So if this is true , is a lot of "manual" work.
