How does Snow inventory thin clients?
Snow Software does not typically inventory thin clients, because by the definition of "thin client" it does not run anything to be inventoried.
Typically what happens is the thin client has just enough of an operating system to launch a session to something like a VDI environment. and it is there, in the VDI's image that our agent/client needs to reside.
In this situation we capture the logon string when an application runs, it looks like this:
User LKO-SNODMO-HNY\Snow Remote Desktop usage Client Name: USA-THINSYSTEM-LP
Where we have the domain\user, the fact that it is from an RDP session, and the client system that it was launched from. With this and additional metadata we capture when the application runs we can build out exactly what application was ran, by any given user, on any give device.
