Hello – can anyone share what they do for maintenance contracts? How do you have them setup within SLM? This would be along the lines of non-discoverable hardware with maintenance.
rswain, each of the choices in the Agreement type drop down allows a certain record type to be associated to it. As you most likely already know, 'Software' allows you to associate license records.'Maintenance' and 'Support' types allow computer records to be associated to them. These are what you might want to consider.
When I managed hardware renewals, I considered maintenance to be hardware parts and repair contracts and support to be technical support contracts. I've not set up agreements of this type much but what I have seen is that there are some limitations on how you can associate computer records to these agreement types. Since you mention non-discoverable, this won't be an issue for you. You'll have an agreement record with a renewal notification function, a large text box to note any needed contract details, and document association.
There's also the ability to create a custom agreement; I've not needed to explore this option but it appears to work similar to the Maintenance and Support; ability to associate hardware, add agreement periods, set renewal notices, etc.
