Can someone tell me what the agreement checkbox "selectable after expiration" does exactly?
Huib, This is whether the software will still work after the expiry of the agreement. If this is a Perpetual license, it will work and you should select it. If it is a subscription, it may not work and you have to determine if it does or not in many cases it will not.
I hope that helps.
This isn't actually correct - the Selectable after expiration checkbox purely relates to whether you want the agreement to continue to be listed in the Agreements drop down when adding a license, once it no longer has a valid period.
All licenses attached to an agreement are deemed as perpetual unless the Subscription agreement checkbox is selected within the agreement or License has a subscription period checkbox within a license is selected.
I guess I misunderstood during the training and have misread "To make the agreement visible in the agreements lists even after expiration, select the Selectable after expiration check box." Page 101 of 147 of the WebUserGuide. But the point above is valid about if you wish to continue using and its all down to determining what type of license.
I understand this field determines whether you can still add items (such as licenses) to an agreement post-expiry.
For example: An Agreement expires March 1, 2017, and you check this checkbox. Then on March 2, you go to create a new license. Then this agreement will appear in the select box (see screenshot below) allowing you to assign the license to the agreement. However, if you had not checked this checkbox, then once the agreement expires, it does not appear in the list of available agreements.
Personally I cannot see why you would want an agreement to be selectable after expiry, but someone did once give me a good example of a such a case. By default, we leave this unchecked.
Both Mark and Jordan are correct. When ticked the contract Is still selectable after expiry. And as Jordan states best practise is to leave it unchecked. However there will be scenarios it is required, specially if you have only just started on your SAM journey with Snow. For instance you are uploading historic entitlement data into Snow and you find some old license entitlement records that were bought under an agreement that has now expired.
So so my advise is in the beginning when uploading historic information into Snow, check the box then when you move into BAU (business as usual) leave it unchecked.
I see the box selectable after expiry as a option to change your agreement after this is expired. So when you don't check this option, you don't have the option to change this agreement after expiry. Wheter you can select your agreement when adding a license has only to do with your chosen period in the agreement. For example when your agreement expires at 6-7-2017 and you buy your license at 7-7-2017 you don't have the option to select this agreement. It doesn't matter if the box is checked of unchecked. So i always select, selectable after experiation, in that way i always have the option to change things in my agreement.
