Auto-assign licenses to cover Win 10 Enterprise + VDA

Question asked by Samuel on May 30, 2019

I see in my environment that Snow auto-assigns Win 10 Enterprise licenses with active SA without prioritizing the computers that need a VDA. Most of the computers in need of a VDA license receive a Win 10 Enterprise license with expired SA. Also, Win 10 Enterprise licenses with active SA give rights to use Win 10 Pro instead in addition to using VDA. None of my computers using VDA has received automatically a Win 10 Enterprise license.

What is your recommendation regarding the assignment of Win 10 Enterprise licenses? Is it possible to configure it in a way that Snow will auto-assign to computers requiring a VDA license?

Jan, would you be able to explain if the auto-assignment prioritizes correctly or if this is for a feature request?

I would say the priority order for Win 10 Enterprise with active SA would be:

  1. Win 10 Enterprise installed + VDA usage
  2. Win 10 Pro installed + VDA usage
  3. Win 10 Enterprise installed (no VDA)
  4. Win 10 Pro installed (no VDA)

The  priority order for Win 10 Enterprise with expired SA would be:

  1. Win 10 Enterprise installed (no VDA)
  2. Win 10 Pro installed (no VDA)
