Hi, Do Snow use java at any level? getting these entries in logging regarding survey of java use:
sios.jar -c snowagent.config -data-dir C
The SIOS.jar is the oracle scanner component of the SNOW agent on Windows, Linux and Unix installations. Because it's role is to inventory any oracle databases I'm assuming that Java would already be installed on these devices. The rest of the SNOW agent doesn't use java to inventory the device.
Hi, what i wonder if i can do, is to remove java all together. from 27000 computers, and would Snow still report? and function as normal? no new computer added to the computer pool will hava java installed, or ever have had a java client installed.
It depends if you actually use the Oracle scanner or not? Do you have any oracle in your estate? If not there's not need to have the oracle agent as part of the SNOW agent implementation. For instance, we don't run the oracle scanner in our estate so we have no reliance on java on our devices. The agent works fine.
There is also the snowmiddlewarescanner.jar file which is used for middleware scanning by the Snow agent. So if you don't use sios.jar for Oracle in depth scanning and snowmiddlewarescanner.jar for middleware scanning there currently is no need for Java in relation to Snow.
Thanks for your reply, that helped a lot. thanks again
