Does anyone know how the "Run" field is calculated in the "Applications per computer installation" report? Is it pulling info from the last 30 days, 60 days, etc? Is there a way to customize this? TIA!
The "Run" field is calculated on if the Snow Inventory Agent see's the application run in the process list. The agent will then check back with the process list on a predetermined time and calculate the "Total Time", "Average Time Per Run", etc.
The metering periods can be adjusted via the the Snow Inventory Agent configuration file.
Thanks for the info, are you able to explain what the settings Metering_History_Months and Metring_History_Cleanup do, these are under Basic Settings in the SMACC.
Also I can see in the config file that days and times for metering to apply, but not the amount of history. so is the Run data, just a cumulative number going back to when the application was first detected, or is it somehow filtered to only include a specific time frame?
The METERING_HISTORY_MONTHS setting in the SMACC is to set the Number of months of historical software metering to take into account when transferring inventory data.
The METERING_HISTORY_CLEANUP setting relates to when to clear the metering history in Snow Inventory. All metering data older than the number of months specified by METERING_HISTORY_MONTHS is removed from the Snow Inventory database. Older statistics etc. are still available in SLM.
There is settings in the snowagent.config for both includes of metering and excludes of meter. Examples below: I have posted a new document includes all the Agent configuration options for Snow Inventory Agent 5 to:
All Snow Inventory Agent 5 Settings with Detailed Explanations
<Meter> <Exclude> <Path>%windir%\*</Path> </Exclude> <Span> <StarTime>PT00H00M</StarTime> <EndTime>PT23H59M</EndTime> </Span> <Occurance> <Weekday>monday</Weekday> <Weekday>tuesday</Weekday> <Weekday>wednesday</Weekday> <Weekday>thursday</Weekday> <Weekday>friday</Weekday> <Weekday>saturday</Weekday> <Weekday>sunday</Weekday> </Occurance> </Meter>
Sorry Christina I appear to have hijacked your post here, but I am just trying to tease out the answer to your original question....
Marc, that's very useful, but as I mentioned those settings relate to the actual data discovery, so if I set metering Monday - Friday then it would not report usage data from Saturday and Sunday which I understand. I believe the original question related to the data in SLM.
so in the above screen shot, you can see I have Last Used Date, a Run Count and a Per Run time, how is this data collated, so the Run count of 91 in the second record above, what time period does that cover, and can it be amended.
I was wondering if the Metering settings in SMACC would control this.
Don't be sorry at all! I'm finding your questions extremely beneficial!
Similar to your response above, an issue I'm running into when running usage reports, is that I see a "Run" figure, but I'm not sure how to make sense of this data. If there's Run of "2", did the user run the application twice in the last week, in the last year, or since they installed the software three years ago?
Thanks for jumping in. Keep it up!
Hi Mark / Christina,
The best way to see detailed usage data on individual applications is to use the report "Applications Per Computer". You can then modify this report to show details on average time the application has been used. The usage time period is from the day the agent was installed up until the last audit. This metering data can be purged on a predetermined time period through a setting in the SMACC. See below screenshots.
