In SLM 7, is it possible via an import to update the Status of a Computer?
I dont believe status is one of the fields you can import when updating computers. What is it you are trying to achieve, maybe we can think of a different way to help you?
We bring in two custom fields from ServiceNow, ServiceNow Status and ServiceNow Substatus.
So when an asset is in a ServiceNow status of say Retired, we want the Snow status to be Inactive. We will eventually archive this record.
Currently I do this all manually, but if we could do it was part of the import it would speed up this process.
I understand, we actualy do it the otherway round and get Snow to update our ServiceNow status
When you say you "bring in" two custom fields from Service Now, have you created those on SLM, so you could run a report to show all computers there the Servicenow Status is retired, but the Snow status is Active?
Do you have database access?
Behind the scenes when you mark a computer as inactive, it is triggering a SQL stored procedure with some parameters, if you have all the data in your SLM database, we should be able to write a SQL script to automaticaly mark the relevent computers as Inactive.
It would not be done as part of the import, but it would give you the desired result.
If this would be of interest, please give me the exact name of the custom field in Snow and I will knock up a quick report that you can check.
Thank you mark.potts for the suggestion. We are just embarking on the upgrade to SLM8 so will see if I still have SQL access once that is completed and will get back to you.
