I have Snow License Manager administrative rights. However, I am unable to edit application definition rules. Where do I switch it on?
You are not able to edit the rules that are provided by Snow, if you create a New Application, or Copy an Existing Application, you should be able to add and edit rules against your own applications.
If the Snow definition does not match your needs for any reason, I would first consider asking the SRS\DIS team to investigate because it may be a problem for all customers, but if not then copy the Snow defined application and create your own version with the rules you require.
I was actually doing something dumb earlier - Even though I though I was selecting unassigned inventoried software, the selection was applications.
Now that I am able to select unassigned software and trying to create a rule, I get an "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.
Hello again Christopher.
OK ,so step 1 is to create a new application, so click on New Application and define the application you want to create.
Step 2 is then to create the rules that will link the unassigned software to the new application. To do this in the Applications find the new app you created, then in the unassigned find an example of the software, then right click it and select New Rule From Selected.
You will probably need to do some tidyup, but it will create a rule to add that unassigned software to the application.
Hope that's helps.
just one addition from my side, it is also possible and useful to override an existing, Snow defined Application.
AFAIK by that, the application defined from Snow is deactivated and cannot interfer with the recognition of the selfdefined application.
Thanks Mark and Sebastian. I was able to create the new application successfully.
