Hi Snow community,
This may seem simple, but what does the orange/brown highlight of an application mean? (In the example below Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2017)
Is it something that i should be worried about? Or take note of?
That indicates that the Snow Agent has seen usage of an application, but the application is not actually installed. Typically this can be seen in 2 scenarios
1) The application has been recently uninstalled, but the usage data is still showing as it has been used recently
2) The application is being run from a computer, but accessed via a network path for example \\computer\application
so Snow is just informing you that it has detected usage from that user / computer that you may need to license, even though the application is not installed locally.
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
On the number 1), does this indicate a bug? it doesnt make sense for an uninstalled application to show post uninstallation usage. Or will the Snow agent rectify and update it at a later stage?
The application will show as installed until the metering period is over, then it will be removed. The metering history period by default is 3 months.
we are exporting/reporting those computer with installed applications to our Commercial tool where each "installed" app is calculated with Insourcing.
So can the orange entries be filtered out within the report of installed applications per computer?
I'd also be intrested in the answer to this. We are in the same situation
How are you exporting to an external system, if it is a sql type export, you can use the "IsInstalled" column from tblComputerApplications to identify those applications that are actualy installed. I dont believe that field is available through the standard reports as criteria or within the column selector.

3) The application is being run from a USB Stick or other removable device (Portable Apps)
