Our organization have some licensed Fonts. We noticed on the SMACC that fonts are recognized and listed under Devices > *computername* > Software > Fonts. Is there a way to add and manage our fonts in Snow?
I am curious about this also.
Our design team recently purchased a font which has a limited number of users/devices, and it we certainly be useful if I could see the devices with the font currently installed.
As the data is collected as part of the Snow Inventory, but not published to Snow License Manager, you are limited as to what you can do with it.
As a start, if you have database access you can create a custom report that will allow you to see the fonts installed on the computers, here is an example
select [HostName], [Manufacturer], [Model], [BiosSerialNumber], fon.[Name] as 'Font Name', fon.[Type] as 'Font Type' from inv.DataClient cli
left join inv.DataFont fon on cli.ClientID = fon.ClientID
where fon.[name] is not null
You can make the report available in the SLM console by following the instructions in this post: https://community.snowsoftware.com/docs/DOC-1283-adding-custom-sql-reports-in-snow-license-manager
That would then allow you to run the report in SLM and use the standard filter options to allow you to search for certain fonts etc. Its a quick fix.
The longer fix is to raise a feature request with Snow Support to explain how you want o be able to use the font data going forward and maybe they can add something to a future release for you.
Hope that helps.
if we assume that the font's string is scanned and visible in the SMACC (unassigned software) and a standard string for all 'installations', then it should be possible to simply add it as a piece of manual sw and get the data via SLM like for all others applications right? That might be worth checking by Murilo initially?
interesting concept, from the original question I made the assumption that Murilo was using SMACC to view the font data from the devices in inventory 5 rather than unassigned software, I was not aware that the fonts also came through as unassigned software, I will take a look when I get to the office.
OK so I did a test on my Inventory 5 system, and unfortunatley I cannot see the fonts listed as unassigned applications, I dont think they are collected as software data, the font data is collected as windows inventory data. So I still think my custom report will be the only way to get this data currently.
I believe you're right. I did some checking too.
