Custom Field: Change 'Type'

Apologises if this has been answered before as there are a few threads relating to custom fields.


Is the a way of changing the 'type' of field once a custom field is created?


We have a customer that added a custom agreement field with the type 'text' and they added numbers to the field, now they are unable to filter reports on over or under a value; I have advised them type should have been 'digit' in order for reports to be able to calculate an under or over value.


The problem is they cannot seem to change the type retrospectively and they don't want to create a new field and amend all of the data; does anyone have any suggestions please?
