Scan for "Windows Virtual PC" XP-Mode VMs?

Question asked by Björn Advocate on Dec 28, 2017

Hi there!

Windows Virtual PC (successor to Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, and Connectix Virtual PC) is a free virtualization program for Microsoft Windows 7, which was e.g. shipped with Microsoft Windows 7 Professional as "XP-Mode" virtualization layer (actually the predecessor of HyperV)

The tool allows the virtual machines to access local and network drives. I recognized that the older versions like "Microsoft Virtual PC 2007" are recognized by Snow, but it seems that the "default Win7Pro and free  "Windows Virtual PC 6.1" software is not recognized:

As we still have Win7 Enterprise in our environment I added a custom application to recognize the Microsoft Version 6.1, but when I recognized, that we have "undected XP VMs" I wonder if others do care for this "security gap" as well and how you manage them:

Are there better ways to recognized such Windows Virtual PC installations?

Do you install Snow clients in the such VMs?
