What happens when the Snow Inventory Agent attempts to come online and snow is out of available licenses. Are computers placed into quarantine until additional licenses are added?
I found that once the license pool is maxed out, quite simply no futher (new) devices are inventoried. If there are old, decommissioned devices still being reported, be sure to set the status to 'Inactive' to release the licence. I cant recall if the device needs to be Archived as well.... Devices with 'Quarantined' status are still consuming a license.
To force a clear out of decommissioned devices from the Inventory db, if needed, this can be done in via the Inventory SMACC console. Deleting from the SLM SMACC will result in the Inventory db re-populating SLM on the next full inventory run.

True. In addition to that, all incoming files are stored in the ERROR directory of the SI server. You might want to clean that out every now and then to avoid your disc space being filled up. Or you can just simply copy the files back to the PROCESSING folder, once you have added enough licenses again.
I am aware that by archiving devices it frees up a license for sure as I carry out weekly checks for any duplication of devices, disposed devices etc.
Really keen to know in by setting a device to "inactive" if this also frees up a license and do you have to manually reset this to active for SLM to start reporting again on a device?
I can confirm that Active/Quarantine/Inactive all consume a client license. Makes sense, really. If Inventory is reporting on a device/computer a client license is required, regardless of status.
Archiving the device/computer DOES NOT consume a client license...but then again this effectively removes it from the 'radar', leaving access to the archive lists via reporting only.
If the computer already exists in inventory and SLM it will update the current record. However if its listed as inactive it will stay that way until you manually activate it.
If the computed do not exist. Then it will not be added if you are out of licenses. You will also see an error in the inventory logfile when it tries to process the new clients data.
Note that there is one license number fro inventory server and another for license manager. Both products will block more agents than you are licensed for.
