Is there a Snow inventory agent available to install on VMware ESXi hosts for software asset inventory purposes ?
The best thing to do is setup the VMWare connector. It will populate the DataCenter reports, which includes VMWare ESXi hosts and also show Host/Guest relationships. Obviously if the guests are Windows VM's you should be putting the Windows SNOW client on them.
To setup the connector you will need to launch the integration manager, identify and get access to the vSphere DB's.
The setup info is in the SIC (SNOW Integration Connector) Admin guides.
Hope this help.....enlighten.
I totally agree on the solution, that you describe. Our Snow Integration Connector for VMware vSphere directly connects to the management portal of your virtualization environment through a read user. It imports all license relevant data and lets you license your hosts.
You can find the User Guide for our VMware vSphere Connector here.
You can find the User Guide for all connectors here.
Individual User Guides for every connector can be downloaded via our Support Portal.
To use our Snow Integration Manager feature, you need it to be licensed. Please talk to your account manager, if you are not yet licensed.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask either in this thread or in our Snow Integration Connectors section, which you can find in the above dropdown menu Discussion Forums.
Thank you for the URLs although I am struggling to locate the User guide, VMware vSphere connector. In order for SIC to connect to an ESX host I would expect I need to create a service account on the ESX host.
Yes, you can add an existing service account if the VSphere is AD joined. I use the same one for all my connectors.
