Not able to launch SUS from Start Menu of SLM sever.
Hi,I also got this message after I installed SLM on a new Windows 2012 R2 server.I then used Windows Explorer and started C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service\SnowSoftware.Update.Gui.exe as Administrator.
I got the message a Self-Update is required and commited that. After that SUS was updated.Because I always got the same Error message again, when I wanted to start Snow Update Service from Windows Start menu I created my own Shortcut to C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service\SnowSoftware.Update.Gui.exe. This works now.
For me as well, SnowSoftware.Update.Gui.exe is working. But from windows start menu it is not working. Thanks!!!
Now I found the solution
It seems in Windows Start Menu the Snow Update Service is linked to the wrong "C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service\SnowSoftware.Update.Service.exe" and you need to change this to "C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service\SnowSoftware.Update.Gui.exe"
When you right click on Snow Update Service you can select Open File location
Then you are forwarded to the link Snow Update Service. With a right click you can open the properties and then can change the exe file name to SnowSoftware.Update.Gui.exe and save this.
After that you can open SUS Gui also from Windows Start menu.
I used the SLM setup version 8.3.0 for installation. I don't know if this problem is caused by this setup.
Carola, it worked. Were you waiting for someone else to raise the issue so that you can fix it
I want to migrate our Snow Servers from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 and did several installations of SLM in our test environment. I always was annoyed of that SUS issue, but didn't understand that really and thought it was only my environment.
You made me aware, that this is a general problem and therefore I checked this a bit deeper.
So thanks, now I got this issue solved also for my environment.
On Monday I will migrate the productive servers and hope this will be running well.
