In what way does the snow agent pick up info about username and full name? Is there some kind of default sync to AD?
Or some registry key (how is it updated)?
All user name information is gathered by the Snow Agent querying a Microsoft Windows API on the computer. The API is probably getting the full user name with some kind of AD request, but since the API is not ours, we do not know exactly how and when it does it. Whether the computer can deliver the full user name or not is depending on the environment, like if the computer is part of a domain or not.
The API can also be broken and needs to be repaired. There can be security settings that block the agent from accessing the information or an antivirus blocking the agent.
I understand that this does not completely answers your question, but I can at least state that:
1. The Snow Agent does not query the AD directly
2. The agent does not read a registry key to retrieve the information
3. We rely on information that we get from a windows API
4. Sometimes we do not get the full user name, and the reasons for it can vary.
Super Martin, thanks a lot for quick reply!
Perhaps following may additionally help you.
It is the field Display name from User Active Directory that is used.
I don't know how how the API, that Martin mentioned works. Perhaps it directly asks AD or perhaps the display name is stored on the local computer during login.
But in the past we also missed the user's Full name in SLM, and after we added the users name in AD -> User -> General -> Display name we also saw that information in SLM.
