I wanted to ask if you could tell me how to handle overlicensing in your company.
Thank you in advance! :-)
Could you please tell us in a bit more detail what you would like to know?
Compliance is calculated between a license requirement that comes from an inventory source and a license entitlement that is put into the system as a software license.
The first step would be to reduce licenses that don't have any value because there is simply no installation. In a second step you can look at usage information that comes from the agent's metering functionality. This will tell you if a license is assigned to a user but he/she didn't use the application for a certain period of time. You could then negotiate the removal of the software and the return of the license to save money.
When it comes to license optimization with high volumes, this manual process can be very time consuming. With our application Snow Automation Platform you can automate software provisioning and de-provisioning using a software store with an integrated approval and notification process. Users can request an application and their line manager would approve this. A manager could also approve the installation for a certain period of time, after which the software would be removed automatically.
Does this help you in any way? If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask
