In order to take advantage of Snow’s solution for optimizing Office 365 subscriptions, you must enable Active Directory user discovery on your Snow Inventory 5 server. This video will show you how to do this.
I'm on an SPE platform that's using Inv3.2 and we are generating AD Discovery data for relay to the hosted server. How will this AD data need to be relayed in this architecture for use with the new O365 functionality?
For Inventory 3, You will need to export your AD usernames and email addresses (the same email address they use for Office 365) and upload that information into SLM via the import (update existing users) function.
Once the email address is in SLM for each user, the office365 connector will match the email address from O365 and correlate the data for you.
If you have Inventory 5, the AD connector included in this automatically pulls this information, so you dont need to do anything.
Hello - since we are hosted, how do we confirm that we are using Inventory 5? If we are not, should we be? Is that controlled by the hosting company?
That's not something you or I can see. You could start with who ever you email your Snow-related support requests to; Snow or the partner. They can tell you what the current version is and, hopefully, the roadmap.

Hello Mary - just sharing an update on what I found out.
Snow is working with CDW on upgrading Snow Inventory to SI5. I was told that they are in the testing phase right now and to expect the upgrade by the end of the summer.
I want to make a slight correction to Mark's reply about SI 5, it is not an "automatic" pull, it needs to be configured and there are some considerations to that configuration like forests and trusts in your domain.
But otherwise, like he said, you can get the information loaded through SLM's front end import via the update existing user import, or the SI 5's AD integration.
Additionally, we have a legacy tool known as the AD Discovery tool, this will NOT work for gathering this information, and there is no plan, currently, to make it perform this task.
